Cinema 4D + VRay

The stucco effect looks more like artifacts, I know.

In this 2nd angle I used plain walls

Craftsman by ~sanfranguy...is not a photograph. Take a closer look, there are very small details that hint at 3D, it will take your breath away. The details are exquisite, the lighting is perfection. (Suggested by @hazelnutx and Featured by `cosmosue)

Seriously though, I think that it came out really well. The one that you did with the DoF character with the hands up front gets a LOT of compliments since it's my desktop background. My fiance` said "I like it, but it's kind of creepy." Thought you'd get a grin out of that one! :) Have a good one bro and keep up the great work.

I really like that sofa - it the floor and the chair are the parts I would have a hard time determining if they were CG or not; but the rest is good enough that one would need to be examining the image to realize it's CG.

One thing I think is killing the final realism, though, are the tiles on the fireplace; they bend over the edges and it's super apparent to me - it looks like a last minute slap-on texture, lacking the care that everything else displays.

If you want me to get really picky, the one other part that seems very CG to me is the contact between the support beams and the ceiling - it's getting that floating effect because there don't seem to be sufficient contact shadows.

I think if those points were mended, mostly the tiles, your whole image would have the level of quality that it looks like you were going for. (:

You are indeed the craftsman -- this is a sickly realistic scene. Pro work there, very detailed!

Funnily enough, the tiles material was procedural and took some time to make. But for whatever reason the bump was reversed.

I agree on the other changes, it needs a re-rendering and perhaps I'll get to it when I have a chance.

Thanks for you observations.

I find procedural stuff gives you a good base to bake out and work on further; they usually just lack that human aspect and look generated as they are. No doubt great stuff's been done with them, especially with MaPZone, but my personal experience is that they usually just don't 'cut it'. And like you said, they do take quite a while to get to even a mediocre look, unless you want a decidedly mathematically perfect texture (which they are very good at ;) ).

Not really, but then again I've been doing it for 8 years.

Although architectural interiors are pretty easy, you need to have an eye for placement, scale and color.
